Tree Facts:
- An average acre of conifer forest captures 13 tons of carbon dioxide each year. Trees also filter many types of air pollutants.
- In a healthy northwest forest, over 40 percent of precipitation never reaches the ground, as it is intercepted by the tree canopy where it slowly trickles down into the soil, or evaporates.
- In the City of Seattle, trees provide the equivalent of a $20.6 million in storm water retention benefits each year
- Native trees and shrubs provide cost effective and highly functional soil stabilization.
- Studies conducted by the University of Washington have identified that residential properties adjacent to an urban greenbelt have 15 percent higher value than a similar property just two blocks away.
- Healthy forests in the Puget Sound region provide wildlife habitat to birds and many small mammal species.
*Up to an aggregate contribution of $12,000.
**Puget Sound region only. The program may expand to additional regions in which HomeStreet does business in 2008.
† Please send your contribution directly to the organization you would like to support. The HomeStreet Bank Tree Challenge matching funds will be distributed based on the amount of designated Tree Challenge monies raised by each of our partners.
