  • Learn more about your favorite recreation destination from experienced Habitat Stewards.

Green Tacoma Day continues to grow each year! This year is seeing some exciting changes. The 14 participating sites along with a brief description of the activity and where to meet are listed below.

Volunteers can help by wearing weather appropriate clothes, sturdy shoes and by bringing tools from home such as small hand tools, loppers, pruners, gloves, rakes, shovels, small pitch forks and even wheelbarrows (make sure and label them!). Volunteers are encouraged to carpool to help with parking.  Most of all, bring your enthusiasm, smiles and be ready to burn some calories and have fun!

Meet at View Point Parking lot and walk up to the picnic table where people can sign in and choose a task.

Gog Le Hi Te Wetlands       Tide Pool Restoration/IR

Built in 1985 as mitigation for the Sea Land Terminal (now AMPT), the Gog Le Hi Te wetlands are a 9.5 acre mix of upland grasses, cat-tail marshes, intertidal zone, emergent marsh, mudflats and channels connecting to the Puyallup River.  Come help keep these important wetlands healthy by volunteering here on Green Tacoma Day.

Because the Lincoln Ave. bridge at Portland Ave. is closed, the most straight forward way is I-5 north and take the Port of Tacoma Rd. exit.  Go left onto Port of Tacoma Rd., turn left on Lincoln Ave. and Gog Le Hi Te will be on the left just before you get to the Puyallup River.

B Street Gulch                            Education/Outreach

Come visit the B Street Gulch for information about the future of the ravine/gulch as a trail/storm water retention system.

An information table will be hosted by a Habitat Steward on 25th (the street the Link Light Rail is on in the Dome District) between C St. and A St.

First Creek                                 Garbage Removal/IR

Please join us from 10am - 1pm at First Creek for some general clean-up, invasive plant removal and creek exploration.

Volunteers can help dig up blackberries, ivy and other invasive weeds between mature shrubs and trees.

TCC's habitat restoration site is on S. 19th Street, across from Fircrest Methodist Church, adjacent to duplexes at 6009 S. 19th Street.  People may find parking on South Visscher Street, one block west of Pearl, north side.

Pacific Lutheran University                                     IR

PLU's habitat restoration site will mainly be doing invasive removal.  Meet at the patio behind the University Center right next to the Fred L. Tobiason Outdoor Learning Center.  If a large enough area is cleared, we might have the opportunity to plant some new native plants!  Please come dressed for the weather, with sturdy shoes and be aware that we probably will be tackling some blackberry brambles.  As such, if you'd like to avoid possible scrapes, please wear long sleeves.
