Location: Pierce County, Carbon River Valley

Acreage: 204.00 acres (Addition I), 2.00 acres (Addition II), 2.03 acres (Addition III)

Ownership History: CLC is working to protect the "gateway" to Mt Rainier National Park along the scenic Carbon River Valley. The properties were purchased in 2005 and 2007 from private landowners, and will be transferred to Mt. Rainier National Park.

Property Description: The 204-acre former farm site is an important parcel that will become the new entrance to the proposed Mount Rainier National Park expansion.  In the future, the property will serve as campgrounds and a Ranger Station for Mt. Rainier National Park.  The other properties border the Carbon River and are within the proposed expansion area of Mt. Rainier National Park.

Conservation Values:  Protection of the scenic Carbon River corridor is critical for endangered Chinook salmon and Bull trout.  The new expansion will also link the National Park to Pierce County’s Fairfax Forest, protecting a wildlife corridor used by migrating elk.
