Baker Woods Urban Preserve (KG20)

KG20

No photo credit available

Location: King County, City of Bellevue

Acreage: 1.50 acres

Ownership History: Susan Baker donated this conservation easement to CLC in 2000.

Property Description: This parcel is a key link in a native forest canopy that extends from the shores of Lake Washington to Killarney Glen Park.  It’s location within an extensive mature forest canopy, along a public trail, and near a large city park makes it particularly significant.

Conservation Values: The forest canopy consists predominantly of century-old Douglas fir and Pacific madrone, and the understory consists of a wide variety of northwest natives.  The site is extremely well-drained, with a topography of knolls and pockets that provide good interior habitat for small mammals and song birds, which are vulnerable to predators along forest edges.  In addition to these songbirds, bald eagles, golden eagles, and pileated woodpeckers have all been observed using trees on the site, and red foxes have also been reported in the neighborhood.
