Medina- East Lake Washington Urban Preserve I-III (KG04)
No photo credit available
Location: King County, Lake Washington
Acreage: 12.50 acres
Onwership History: In 1994, a private landowner donated conservation easement of nine acres to Cascade Land Conservancy. In 1997, a neighboring landowner granted an easement on adjacent parcels, increasing the area of protected land to 12.5 acres.
Property Description: These three properties are located along the heavily developed shoreline of Lake Washington. The conservation easements on the properties protect over 600 feet of Lake Washington shoreline.
Conservation Values: The properties are covered with a young (50-60 years) mixed-deciduous forest of bigleaf maple and western red cedar. The landowners on both properties have planted many conifers to ensure a healthy forest after the relatively short-lived maples are gone. They are also diligent in removing invasive plants, such as English ivy, that can lead to the death of trees. The properties provide an important open space and habitat for wildlife such as bald eagles, muskrat, and songbirds.
