Location: King County, Maury Island

Acreage: 300.00 acres

Ownership History: CLC acquired the property from the Maury Island Land Company and transferred it to King County Parks in 1994.

Property Description: The Maury Vashon Waterfront Preserve contains 1.3 miles of shoreline and 300 acres of madrona uplands.  Its previous usage as a gravel pit by the Riedel/Glacier Sand and Gravel Company created a dramatic topography of steep slopes and plateaus, and it is now an important marine park on Maury Island.

Conservation Values: The waterfront property provides important open space for Maury Island as well as pristine beaches, abundant native plants and animals, and commanding views of Puget Sound and Mount Rainier.  Maury Island’s eelgrass beds provide shelter for Chinook salmon, and the island’s shorelines contain the largest herring spawning grounds in Central Puget Sound.
