County Snapshot
From the Olympic Mountains to the shores of Hood Canal and south to Oyster Bay, Mason County offers residents and visitors a rich history and lands and waters that are fundamental to the county’s economic past, present, and future. CLC’s work in the county is focused on maintain working landscapes of farms and forest and the scenic vistas and shorelines that draw visitors from around the region.
The County’s population has doubled in the last 20 years and communities are feeling the pain of expanding services and infrastructure. Together, county and local governments, tribes, and conservation partners like CLC are committed to growth that ensures the viability of our resourced based economy and preserves our heritage and high quality of life.
Inspired by Nature: Cascade Land Conservancy's First Annual Photo Contest and Art Exhibit
Cascade Land Conservancy is excited to announce its first annual Art Exhibit and Photo Contest to highlight the work of local photographers and artists “inspired by nature.” Photographs of the Olympic and Kitsap Peninsulas currently are being accepted in three categories -- Nature and Conservation, Communities and Quality of Life, and Youth. Entries are due by Friday, August 22nd at 4:00 pm.
The event, highlighting local and regional artists and photo contest winners, will be held at Hood Canal Marina in Union on August 30th. It will be a celebration of our region’s art community and the wonderful places in which we live. The event will take place from 2 pm to 6 pm with Awards Ceremonies for the Photo Contest beginning at 4:30 pm.

Mason County’s first Preserve Dedication

CLC’s first nature preserve in Mason County was recently dedicated to the legacy of Irene Davis, one of North Mason’s most well known historians and conservationists. The newly acquired 57-acre Irene Davis Union River Preserve will forever preserve critical habitat for interior forest birds, salmon, trout, and the
occasional bear that visits the overgrown orchard associated with the old homestead. CLC will be restoring the old fields and orchard to forest in the coming years with local volunteers and conservation partners.
