Schedule of activities
- Check-in begins at 10 a.m. at South picnic shelter.
- 10:45 a.m. Brief opening remarks.
- 11 a.m. Family beach walk: Explore the inner tidal environment at low tide with a naturalist from the Environmental Science Center. Appropriate for all ages.
- 11 a.m. Choose one of three hikes:
- Charlie Raines, Director of Forest Conservation, will lead this easy hike and talk about wildlife habitat and waterways.
- Jodie Salz, Stewardship Project Manager, will lead this medium level hike and talk about native plants and wildlife interactions.
- Lindsay Malone, King County Project Manager, will lead this hike to the nine acres we added to the park and talk about our conservation work. This less-established trail requires more scrambling over logs and ducking under branches.
- 12 p.m. Cookout begins at the South shelter. Entrees provided by Taylor Shellfish.
- 1:00 p.m. Brief remarks by Gene Duvernoy, Bruce Williams and Burien Mayor Joan McGilton.
- 1:30 p.m. Nature craft activity for kids and one of two hikes:
- Janet Wall, King County Trustee, will lead this hike to the nine acres we added to the park and will share her extensive expertise on native plants. This less-established trail requires more scrambling over logs and ducking under branches.
- Kevin Alexander, who runs seahurstpark.org and volunteers there, will lead an easy hike and discuss his experiences removing invasive plants.
Why Seahurst Park?
We facilitated the addition of 9.1 acres to the park in 2007.
The park features several miles of walking trails, over a mile of shoreline, incredible views of the Olympic mountains, picnic shelters, recently refurbished bathrooms and a playground.
