Shoreline and Estuaries

Shorelines and Estuaries

Teal DuckOur 100 year vision for the region, The Cascade Agenda , calls for conserving and restoring an additional 14,000 acres along Puget Sound and Washington's estuaries.  This is essential for improving the health of Puget Sound, conserving important habitat and for providing outstanding shoreline recreational opportunities.

Pillar PointIn addition to our many projects along the Puget Sound shoreline,  CLC has a highly active estuary program along the Washington coast. The Wildlife Forever Fund provides resources to support acquisition of high-quality estuaries, coastal wetlands and riparian lands throughout the state.  The fund focuses on preserving the best remaining examples of pristine estuaries, where freshwater from rivers and streams meets and mixes with saltwater, creating rich ecosystems for a wide variety of plants and animals.

North Shore Grays HarborProtected habitats include gorgeous rivers, saltwater marshes and freshwater wetlands and forested buffers covered with spruce, hemlock and cedar, all of which provide outstanding habitat for blue herons, shorebirds, waterfowl, bald eagles, salmon, sea otters, elk, black bear and more.

Spanning ten counties, the Wildlife Forever Fund has helped protect the mouths of 25 rivers and creeks, over 9000 acres and more than 20 miles of saltwater shoreline.
