County Snapshot

From the Olympic Mountains to the shores of Hood Canal and south to Oyster Bay, Mason County offers residents and visitors a rich history and lands and waters that are fundamental to the county’s economic past, present, and future. CLC’s work in the county is focused on maintain working landscapes of farms and forest and the scenic vistas and shorelines that draw visitors from around the region.

The County’s population has doubled in the last 20 years and communities are feeling the pain of expanding services and infrastructure. Together, county and local governments, tribes, and conservation partners like CLC are committed to growth that ensures the viability of our resourced based economy and preserves our heritage and high quality of life.

Calling all photographers!

Reflections on the Oxbow - Doni TurnerWhether you take pictures professionally or just for fun, Cascade Land Conservancy invites you to enter our Second Annual Olympic Peninsula Photo Contest.  The theme this year is “What’s your 100 year vision?”, and photos will be accepted in three categories; Nature and Conservation, Communities and Quality of Life, and Youth.

We really want to highlight the places and things that people love about the Peninsula, from your favorite park space to an example of a great community space. Show us what you want to see for the peninsula in 100 years.  What kinds of things would you like to stay the same and what would you like to see different?

Entries are due to the Shelton office of Cascade Land Conservancy by Friday, August 7th at 4:00 pm.  Winners will be posted on the Cascade Land Conservancy website and prizes will be announced at a later date.

To enter, please see our rules and guidelines and fill out one of our entry forms.  Questions?  Email Gina Smith at ginas@cascadeland.org.

Mason County’s first Preserve Dedication

 Irene Davis grandchildren

CLC’s first nature preserve in Mason County was recently dedicated to the legacy of Irene Davis, one of North Mason’s most well known historians and conservationists. The newly acquired 57-acre Irene Davis Union River Preserve will forever preserve critical habitat for interior forest birds, salmon, trout, and theMason County occasional bear that visits the overgrown orchard associated with the old homestead. CLC will be restoring the old fields and orchard to forest in the coming years with local volunteers and conservation partners.
