Background:
Cascade Land Conservancy is Washington’s largest land conservation, stewardship and community building organization, currently working in King, Kittitas, Pierce, Mason, and Snohomish counties. It also performs estuary and near shore conservation and stewardship work in other counties on Puget Sound and the Pacific coast. The Conservancy’s mission is to conserve great landscapes and create great communities.
Summary of Position:
Cascade Land Conservancy (CLC) is a leading edge regional nonprofit land conservation organization, with offices in Pierce, King, Snohomish, Kittitas counties and the Olympic Peninsula in Washington State. It also engages in estuary and near shore conservation and stewardship in other coastal counties. CLC’s is heading the Cascade Agenda – an innovative program to conserve our region’s major landscapes in tandem with the creation of vibrant cities.
The Government Grants Manager is responsible for helping to maximize overall government grant funding for CLC programs and projects, including identifying new sources; to support departments with the administration of grants and the development of proposals; and to ensure compliance with prescribed government standards and agreement specifics. This position may also act as project manager for certain administrative intensive grants. Finally, it requires close cooperation with all levels of Cascade Land Conservancy, public agencies and other organizations.
Responsibilities Include:
Maximize Overall Government Grant Revenue
• Help identify and pursue new grant sources
• Prepare a relationship management strategy with relevant agencies
• Create and manage a grants calendar to proactively prepare and apply for specific grant sources
• Prepare analysis and archival documentation of successful and unsuccessful grant applications
• Provide quality control for all CLC grant applications.
Provide Grant Support for CLC Program Areas and Departments
• Provide resources to facilitate proposal and streamline the grant writing process
• Track progress, complying with reporting requirements, ensuring legal contract requirements are enforced
• Recording and filing necessary information, filling out forms and amendments, and preparing for audits
• Work with CLC government grants accounting staff to ensure grant administrative tasks lead to complete and organized information for each grant and accurate submittal of Schedule of Financial Assistance for audit
• Assistance with creation of project budgets, ensuring that grant budgets reflect CLC costs to provide services and providing early management input into viability of grant sources as appropriate for business model.
Project Management of Specific Federal Contracts
• Coordinate all elements, including work plans, tracking, and reporting, of the project and serve as a communication hub among the various partners.
• Provide ongoing strategic input to project staff to guide the direction of the project.
• Ensure timely and accurate completion of project deliverables.
• Manage project budget and complex Federal invoicing process.
• Prepare and submit quarterly progress reports for funders and project partners.
• Prepare for and lead monthly project-wide meetings and ensure timely follow up on all action steps.
• Oversee all marketing and media opportunities associated with the project.
• Develop templates for materials and presentations for project funders, staff, and stakeholders.
• Review project deliverables and reports as requested by staff and project partners.
• Prepare technical and non-technical briefings about the project for a wide variety of audiences.
• Identify and pursue additional funding sources to support the project.
Auditing compliance
• Ensure compliance among all staff with CLC government grant systems and protocols
• Work with CLC finance and accounting staff to help manage internal control process, consolidate information, and prepare for upcoming audits. Help out as needed during audits.
QUALIFICATIONS
Required
• Minimum two years successful experience working in the area of government grant administration
• Proven ability to take initiative, demonstrated customer service focus, exercise discretion and maintain confidences.
• Proven ability to organize priorities, meet deadlines, and manage peak periods of activity while maintaining broad portfolio. Strong problem solving skills and attention to detail with accuracy.
• Excellent communication skills, both oral and written, and basic word-processing skills.
• Ability to interact positively with a wide range of people, including government officials, legislators, public policy advocates from a wide range of organizations, and other CLC staff, board members and volunteers.
• Proficient with Microsoft office suite and excellent computer aptitude
• Demonstrated commitment to conservation and the goals of Cascade Land Conservancy.
Preferred
• Current knowledge of applicable federal government circulars (OMB A-110, A-122 and A-133), state and local regulations, and of the meaning of standard contract clauses.
• Knowledge of Washington's natural communities, species, and resource management issues.
• Degree in finance or public administration preferred, and knowledge of land management, public policy, business, real estate and law desirable.
