Cascade Land Conservancy (CLC) is a leading edge regional nonprofit land conservation organization, with offices in Pierce, King, Mason, Snohomish and Kittitas counties in Washington State. Summary of Position:
Cascade Land Conservancy hosts dozens of community volunteer restoration events on its properties each year. The events take place outdoors, in a wide variety of weather conditions, at sites scattered throughout the greater Puget Sound region. The events take place both during the week and on the weekends and usually last between 3 and 6 hours. Restoration activities usually include removing invasive, non-native plants; installing native trees and shrubs; and maintaining trails and facilities. An event assistant is needed on the day of each event to help set up the event, lead restoration and associated environmental education activities, and to take down the event and properly store all of the tools and supplies. We anticipate hosting 10 events between September 1st and November 30th, 2010. We expect travel, set-up, implementation and take-down to take an average of 8 hours per event.
Specific Duties
1. Assist in the implementation of volunteer restoration events on CLC protected properties.
2. Responsible for instructing and leading hands-on restoration and environmental education activities. On day of the event, the position will the set up and clean up the event area. This includes:
• Loading and unload tools, supplies and event materials from the storage facility to the event location.
• Cleaning and maintaining tools/materials pre and post event.
• Ensuring that all garbage and debris is removed from the restoration location.
3. Perform other duties as assigned to ensure the success of the event.
The successful candidate is punctual and reliable and must commit to staffing the following event dates:
• September 11th
• September 17th
• September 24th
• September 25th
• October 9th
• October 23rd
• October 28th
• October 30th
• November 13th
Qualifications
1. Demonstrates initiative in pro-actively identifying and solving problems as they arise.
2. Knowledge and/or experience in habitat restoration and environmental education.
3. Must have the ability to communicate and instruct a diverse group of people.
4. Experience leading and staffing outdoor events.
5. Knowledge and/or experience with standard habitat restoration supplies and tools (shovels, loppers, clippers, mulch, native plants, weed wrench, etc.).
6. Willingness to work in inclement weather conditions.
7. A positive attitude, leadership skills and great sense of humor are a must!
8. Ability to lift 40 pounds and work in inclement conditions.
9. Willingness to work nonstandard hours.
10. Valid driver’s license is required.
